♪♪♪ Liam Potter ♪♪♪

They say the youth are our future, well I cannot think of a better example of the future generation of musicians than a young phenom I met a few months back!
The young man's name is Liam Potter and at the age of 11 years...WOW what a musician he is already!!!

Born in March 1999, Liam has loved music since he was a baby, having no interest in "kid's music" ( not into Raffi, Barney, etc at all ), for Liam it was ROCK all the way!

Liam spent his toddler years drumming on everything and anything and would constantly carry around an old handed down kids- size guitar, always strumming it and dancing around like he does on stage now!
His Mom Susan says she had to tune it to a G chord for him or she would have gone insane as he hadn't figured out the fretboard at that point!

At the age of 6, the family got a drum kit and for the next couple of years he and his older brother Jesse, played together, Liam played drums and Jesse played guitar.

The brothers would busk down at the Halifax waterfront to raise money for a family in Cambodia!
Liam on djembe and Jesse on guitar, the boys continued this musical act during the summers of 2006-2009

The Potter brothers played their first gig at the Just Us Cafe in Wolfville to raise money for a family with a sick child
Videos of this gig can be found on You Tube

Meanwhile Liam was getting better and better on guitar ( both boys are 99% self taught, they prefer doing their own thing over the more structured learning of music lessons!
You can see a video here of Liam playing his first "original" guitar piece when he was 7 years old

In January 2008 they formed a band called Resisting Gravity. Liam played drums but at this point was itching to play guitar, yet being the youngest and the lowest on the totem pole had to settle for drums since that is what the band needed.
The band members came and went over the next two years, but Jesse and Liam were the mainstays, they played various gigs (fundraisers, public events, etc)

Resisting Gravity broke up in January 2010, Jesse turned 18 and was getting more into jazz-funk type music and Liam who was 10 at the time was moving more and more into the blues

After the break up of  Resisting Gravity, Liam was really down, but Scott and Ryan Hupman were there for him and offered much support. The Hupman's invited Liam to come and jam with them when they played at Paddy's Pub in Wolfville, he went up and played Sugar's All Gone!
The Hupman Brothers have been truly terrific to both brothers and should be commended for their support of our musical youth!

Liam started playing on his own at open mics and Night Kitchen Concerts in Wolfville

In 2010 Liam wrote his first song Minesville Road, about getting lost in the woods in East Lawrencetown and coming out on Minesville Road, miles away from where he had started

Liam just started singing a few months ago and let me tell you he just blew the crowd away at the jam!
You would never know for such a young performer! Liam has such stage presence and a fantastic voice for the blues that brings the attention of the audience to a hush while he is singing and performing!!
Keep up the great work Liam! Amazing job!

Liam received an alto sax for Christmas and has begun to take lessons, with aspirations to be a musician, this multi talent young man is going to go very far in the industry!
From all of your supporters Liam, we wish you much success in your musical career!
You are definitely headed for great things in your future!!
We are all looking forward to hear you sing and perform again very soon!
Big hugs, Kat ♥
